The Link Between Human and Animal Violence
$175.00
The Animal-Human Violence relationship is so relevant in predicting future violence, that in 2016, the FBI started tracking animal cruelty cases in the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). This pattern is clearly seen in most serial and mass murder killers; with early recognition and intervention, NIBRS may stop some future violence. This course will provide students with the tools to help identify the maltreatment of children, the elderly, and animals; the need for mandated reporting; multi-agency interactions; and theories of why people hurt animals. By recognizing the precursors to future violence, students will understand the cycle of violence and “The Link.”
Course includes topics on:
• The history of “The Link”
• Theory on battered victims and animals
• Interviewing when animals are involved
• Signs of child maltreatment
• Signs of elder abuse
• Signs of animal abuse
• Linking human and animal violence
• Recognition of the Cycle of Violence
• Steps for prevention
• Current treatment programs
This 8-hour training will be in person and is good for those working Patrol, Investigations, Dispatch, or an Animal Control assignment.
