Wound identification is the number one key element in effectively and efficiently investigating any scene where trauma is present and a crime may have been committed.  This specialized, 24-hour training course is broken down into three modules for law enforcement officers and professional staff who are engaged in trauma related investigations.  They will gain the skills necessary to effectively investigate trauma related scenes with conceptual knowledge, tangible competencies, and first-hand experiences presented within a classroom setting.

Both law enforcement professionals and their supervisors should attend this course to ensure their staff is well trained and confident in wound recognition and identification when it comes to trauma related investigations.  The byproduct of this knowledge can reduce liability, enhance investigations, and streamline prosecution of cases.  This course offers first-hand knowledge, real life case studies, and comparison of case similarities, which are designed to expose learners to a vast variety of cases.  The training will be enhanced through well-designed learning activities, job aids, and student driven discussions.

Course includes training on:

  • Identifying trauma and possible ways that it occurred and by what means
  • Identifying Perimortem versus Antemortem injuries in death investigations
  • Determining the best ways to preserve traumatic injury evidence
  • The forensic autopsy examination
