Convict to Graduate: Using Education as a Tool for Successful Reentry
4-hours Online/Remote
This four (4) hour, online course focuses on the post-conviction education of formerly incarcerated and system-involved individuals (FI/SI). Through interactive discussions and activities, students will learn about current research examining how education may aid in the reentry process and the motivations for FI/SI to pursue further schooling and success in society. Additionally, the students will explore the steps to furthering Fi/SI’s education, including GED testing, Adult Schooling (GED prep), ACT, SAT, and credit transferring; the Community College admissions process; and how to eventually transfer from a Community College to a CSU or a UC college. Finally, this course will explore resources to give to probationary clients to create plans that can be implemented for those that are seeking to further their education.
- Examine current research on education and reentry into society to include success rates and motivations for furtherance of education;
- Learn how to prepare for schools testing to include the GED, ACT, and SAT;
- Compare schools for their clients to help ensure successful education;
- Learn how clients can start Community College, choose the correct classes, apply for financial aid, and succeed in the college environment;
- Explore how clients can transfer to a CSU or UC college for both undergraduate and graduate work;
- Explore the various resources that are currently available for clients to help them succeed in the education system.
