Processing the Evidence, Institution

The primary focus of this 8-hour course is to help officers and/or agents of probation, parole and correctional staff identify, document, and properly collect items of evidence.  Officers and agents are tasked with conducting searches within institutions to ensure that terms of contraband are not present, and if they are, properly collected properly and safely for later court use.

Course includes training on:

  • Defining what is evidence and its use in the investigation and court;
  • Identifying possible dangers within the institution and how to take the appropriate protections;
  • Identifying available resources at the county, state, and federal levels;
  • The value and need of the chain-of-custody;
  • Documenting the scene and evidence by sketch, log and photography; and
  • The reasons why and how to collect, process, and transport evidence.
