This course is designed for newly assigned Jail Training Officers at the state, county, or municipal level. Knowing the function of the jail system and effectively training and mentoring new staff assigned to this function is critical for the safety of the jailer/correctional deputy/correctional officer. This standardized course will cover the various aspects of the Jail Training Officer, including their primary function, ethics and professionalism, safety, mentoring and coaching, learning styles, documentation, and legal and liability concerns inherent in this role.

Through lectures, facilitated discussions, and hands-on practicum, students will be able to effectively train new staff, remediate when necessary to ensure competency, and create a uniformed program to ensure consistency amongst training officers and trainees, benefiting the organization and inmates.
